An American Marriage

The wonderful thing about writing and publishing books is that I can feed my reading addiction and classify it as a legitimate business expense. Reading great books keeps me humble and makes my writing better. Recently, I read An American Marriage by Tayari Jones.

What a powerful book. An Oprah 2018 book club selection, An American Marriage is the story of a young black man, Roy, wrongly accused and imprisoned for rape, and how his relationship with his wife, Celestial, weathers the storm. Despite their best intentions, Roy's incarceration takes its toll and they grow apart. Andre, Celestial's friend since they were babies, becomes more than a shoulder to cry on during this difficult time.
